2009 – 65. VÝROČÍ / 65TH ANNIVERSARY

Rok 2009 byl zlomový, co se počtu zahraničních návštěvníků týče. Poctít nás svou návštěvou se rozhodlo 12 Američanů a 2 Britové:

Tolik zahraničních hostů jsme tu nikdy dříve neměli. Donna Conway přijela s manželem Frankem a o vzpomínkové akci se dozvěděla díky tomu, že v té době působila jako pomocný historik u asociace veteránů 2. bombardovací skupiny. Fern Wagner přijela s manželem Royem. Její bratr Joe Sallings byl sestřelen nad Rudicemi a konce války se dočkal ukryt v domě Pešátů v Přečkovicích. Kelly Charles- Meyrick přijela se svými dětmi Andrew a Cassandrou a otcem Mikem. Mike je synovcem Russella W. Meyricka, který byl sestřelen nad Rudicemi a přitom zahynul. S Kelly jsme se seznámili čirou náhodou na jednom zahraničním leteckém fóru. Nic Mevoli byl vnukem Joe Owsianika, sestřeleného nad Rudicemi a v té době nás navštívil již poněkolikáté. Kate Susman a Zach přijeli s Nicem jako jeho přátelé. Todd Weiler nás navštívil podruhé a jako vítaný a dlouho očekávaný dar s sebou přivezl několik výtisků čerstvě vydané knihy „Mighty By Sacrifice“ pojednávající o Misi 263. Todd je synovcem Jimmy Weilera, který jako pilot a velitel zahynul u Krhova. S Brity Terry Foxem a Karlem Rochfordem se známe ze zahraničního leteckého fóra a vzpomínková akce je tak zaujala, že se rozhodli zúčastnit osobně.

Hosté se nám sjížděli postupně, jako první přicestoval Nic Mevoli, se kterým jsme před oficiální částí strávili víkend v Králíkách na akci „Cihelna“, poté jsme už společně s Toddem Weilerem navštívili místo dopadu B-17G „Snafuperman“ u Metylovic a v Boršicích u Buchlova jsme se potkali s páterem Janem Marečkem, který se osobně (!) zúčastnil pohřbívání amerických letců ve Slavičíně dne 31. srpna 1944.

Během oficiální části vzpomínkových akcí jsme pak s našimi hosty postupně navštívili místa dopadů některých strojů, jako Vyškovec, Krhov, Rudice a Šanov, místa dočasného posledního odpočinku některých z letců ve Slavičíně a v Rudicích a muzea ve Slavičíně a v Šanově.

Byla to jedna z nezapomenutelných návštěv!

The year 2009 was a breaking point in term of the number of the foreign visitors. Twelve Americans and two Brits decided to attend the 65th anniversary commemoration:

We have never had so many foreign visitors here before. Donna Conway arrived with Frank, her husband. She learned about the event as she worked as an assistant historian of the 2nd Bomb Grop veterans association. Fern Wagner came with her husband Roy. Her brother Joe Sallings bailed out over Preckovice and spent the rest of the war in this village hidding at the Pesat’s family. Kelly Charles- Meyrick arrived with her children Cassandra and Andrew and her father Mike. Mike is a nephew od Russell W. Meyrick who was shot down over Rudice and perished. We met with Kelly by chance a tone aviation forum. Nick Mevoli was a grandson of Joe Owsianik who was shot down over Preckovice and it was one of his many visits. Kate Susman and Zach Baylin came with Nic as his friends. Todd Weiler visited us for a second time and brought with him a long-awaited and welcome gift – a newly published book „Mighty By Sacrifice“ describing the Mission 263. Todd’s uncle Jim Weiler was a pilot who perished during the crash at Krhov. Brits Terry Fox and Karl Rochford are my friends from one aviation forum and they got so much interested in this air battle that they decided to attend the commemoration in person.

Our guests were arriving gradually. Nic Mevoli came as a first one and together with him we spent the weekend before the official part of the commemoration at Kraliky where there was a military reanactment event „Cihelna“ and then, together with Todd Weiler we visited the crash site of B-17G „Snafuperman“ at Metylovice and in Borsice u Buchlova we met a priest Jan Marecek who during the war served at Slavicin and personally (!) attended the funeral of the American fliers on August 31, 1944.

During the official part of the commemoration we visited the crash sites of some of the planes as Vyskovec, Krhov, Rudice and Sanov, the cemeteries in Slavicin and Sanov where some of the fliers were temporarily buried and museums in Slavicin and Sanov.
